Ideas Make Manifestos

MED 002 | Freaky Dancing, 1989.
A crucial resource and lifeline to fellow like-minded compatriots, the fanzine —almost always exclusively associated with subculture— came from a place of limited means to cover fleeting yet compelling moments in a tangible but wholly disposable format that could easily be passed around and shared.
This fanzine, “Freaky Dancing,” is one of my hotter trophies as it was only available to the queue for The Haçienda on a Friday night in 1989—you literally had to be there. Am I showing off? Probably. It was an ordeal getting into The Haçienda, so I’ll allow it.
I have about six of these and have no clue how I still had them at the end of the night when more important things like my car keys, friends and marbles were regularly lost.
You buy the whole Freaky Dancing collection online, rendering my humble artefacts worthless in the eyes of capitalism but, of course, priceless to me.
