MED 003 | The End, 1986.

My_Empire_Of_Dirt_The_End_1986

Another zine appreciation post.

Launched September 1981 by Peter Hooton, later to become the lead singer of The Farm, The End achieved must-have cult status across the UK, offering an irreverent but hilarious snapshot of Liverpool’s culture.

Far from being crafted by artsy art school students, The End was the work of lads from the streets and football terraces—football casuals with a keen ear for music and a strong appreciation for trainers and closed-cuff tracksuit bottoms.

It became a photocopied bible for the savvy “scally”.

I’ve got a few of these, many of which Peter Hooton gave me; see comments. Appropriately, they were a thank-you for giving him a load of Puma trainers, but that’s another story.
