MED 008 | Jockey Slut, 1993

‘Zine appreciation post number three and joint love-in for Andy Weatherall: —Jockey Slut May/June 1993.

Weatherall gets his tats out grabbing my attention as his “Fail We May, Sail We Must” tattoo nods to taking risks, resilience, and perseverance…no matter the outcome which always stuck with me but I’m pretty sure this photo predates it.

Another fave expression from Andy:

"Let us don our ceremonial headwear, huddle around our devices, and let the invocation begin."

…and finally…

“Music’s not for everyone”, which was smart as the name of his show on NTS radio.

A wise man with creative gifts bestowed from some other planet and so so missed.

Jockey Slut began in Manchester in 1993, and founders Paul Benney and John Burgess can probably let us know exactly what issue this is. ☺️
