Confessions of a gin start-up: the things I’ve learnt this year, 2023.

1. You need to be interesting to compete in a crowded market of gin incumbents.

2. If your gin is based on fetish, you're interesting.

3. Sometimes, the American TTB process will kick your ass.

4. Not having enough stock is really bad.

5. Having too much stock is really bad.

6. There’s no such thing as B2B, D2C or B2C; only human to human.

7. A Bijou is the queen of cocktails.

8. Consent is essential in ALL areas of our lives—having the right to agree to the things that happen to us.

9. 75% of the population have a kink. (that few?)

10. Loss of momentum kills business. No matter how exhausted you are or how difficult the situation is, keep pushing and make the decision. Never stop moving!

Bottoms Up 2024 and Sweet Gwendoline French Gin, and good luck to all spirits (including gin) start-ups!
